Cutting the umbilical cord…

Hi,

Since a vast majority of you might not have even heard my name, let me begin by first introducing myself.

I am Rajesh Barnwal, joined Webchutney on January 2, 2004 and was appointed by the company as founding editor of AlooTechie.com in September 2005.

Having worked for more than 7 years at Webchutney, a thought came to my mind: Should I continue living in the comfort zone or cut my own umbilical cord and go on a risky entrepreneurial journey?

After talking with my family and some of my close friends and considering the pros and cons of both the options I decided to go on my own and breath a fresh life!

So, here I am, writing an email, saying Farewell to

My first boss M Sandeep. Sandeep, thanks for holding my hands in those very formative days.

My ex-client Rahul Nanda. (Yes, many people might not know but he was on the client side before joining Webchutney). Rahul, thanks for supporting in all the ways while I was working at KM Wire. Must say, I polished my editing skills only at KM Wire. Sad to know the initiative could not survive for long, but as you recently said: that’s life!

My friend, philosopher and guide Sidharth Rao. Sidharth, thanks for identifying the raw talent in me, making me believe what I was capable of and helping me in every possible way to realise that. Much of what I know in content I learned from you.

The inimitable Sudesh Samaria: Sudesh, thanks for saying: do saal tak ek bhains ko bhi apne darwaaje par bandho to usase pyaar ho jaata hai, when someone suggested to shut down AlooTechie.

My current boss Madhu Sudhan. Madhu, thanks for discussing the business part of online publishing with me. Without understanding that I could never even imagine going on my own. Also, I would like to thank you for agreeing on my succession plan and for the wonderful unwritten commitment! That was very kind of you! Thanks once again!

My friend and colleague Satrajit Sen. Satrajit, thanks for agreeing to carry on the torch. Without you, I would not have even thought of moving from Aloo. Let me also take this opportunity to congratulate you on your new role as editor of AlooTechie. I am sure you would shine in this role. My Best Wishes!

My last hire in the company, and now friend Abhay Anand. Abhay, thanks for living up to my expectations and instilling the confidence in me that I still can identify great colleagues and team members.

Webchutney and its great ecosystem. Not sure how many companies can boast of having an eco-system that can inspire even an office boy to become an entrepreneur and excel in it. In case some of you don’t know, our own Ganpati, who runs a dhaba on the terrace of Webchutney’s Delhi office, was earlier a part of the support staff at Webchutney Delhi. Thanks Webchutney!

I would also like to remember here Sanjay Uniyal, Saket Vaidya, Nishi Kant, Rajesh Arora, Santosh Bhatia, Raghu, Saurabh, Samar, Umakant, Sushil, Akshay, Aditya, Shweta, Ankita, Saumya, Shivani, Chandan, Jay, Mayank, Priyank, Priyanka, Arusha… the list goes on with whom I have directly or indirectly worked one time or other. Thanks to all of you for helping me in performing my duties in one way or other.

When I told my wife this morning that today would be my last day at Webchutney and from tomorrow I would be working on my plans full time, she said: ye ishq nahi aasaan, bas itana hi samajh lijye, ek aag ka dariya hai, aur doob ke jaana hai. And then I just remembered what Tithiya Sharma of 100 Heroes Project (http://100heroesproject.com/) would have said: When it itches, scratch! And I am going to scratch! Period.

PS: Please feel free to send your wishes to my personal email id ra****.barn***@gma**.com. I really need them. Thanks in advance.

PSS: I have deliberately put the email id *****@webchutney.net in BCC so as to discourage you from hitting ‘reply all’ :-)

Best Regards,

Rajesh Barnwal

Note: This is a copy of the email that I sent to my colleagues this afternoon.
